What Is Dysport®?
Dysport is FDA approved as a non-surgical treatment of fine lines and wrinkles, especially those on the face. Many patients begin to see results just a few days after receiving the first injection of Dysport®. After just a few injections, patients experience the full benefits of treatment, including a huge boost to their self-esteem.
Benefits of Dysport®
Dysport® is a perfect alternative to aging skin without the invasiveness of a surgical procedure. The areas of the body most prone to wrinkling are the mouth, brow area, or neck. Doctors can focus on those areas that concern you the most.
How Is Dysport® Administered?
Our plastic surgeon will inject Dysport® directly into the muscle closest to the area with the lines or wrinkles. This will force the muscle to relax and cause the appearance of smooth, wrinkle-free skin. The procedure is safe and virtually pain-free. Dysport® has become widely used in the United States as a safe alternative to cosmetic surgery. Doctors experienced at administering the drug can relieve any anxiety you may have before your treatment.
Wrinkles and fine lines are an inescapable part of life. Every time that you frown, smile, pucker your forehead in thought, squint from the sunlight, or even purse your lips, you distort your face into a different position. Eventually, your nerves will respond in such a way that cause fine lines to appear and the skin to become wrinkled. Dysport® remedies this situation by changing the reactions of those nerves, thus creating the appearance of smooth, even skin.
Preparing for Dysport® Injections
Dysport® treatments are convenient and can be given in our office. Be sure to check with your primary physician before the procedure if you are taking blood thinners. Smokers will need to refrain from using tobacco before their appointment. Before your first treatment of Dysport®, one of our plastic surgeons will take the time to speak with you and answer any of your questions.
After you have your first injection, our doctor will give you instructions on how to care for your skin at home. A follow-up appointment will also be scheduled. Most people do not notice much change in their skin for the first few days after their injection. The injection site may be slightly sore, red, or inflamed. Bruising sometimes appears, as well, but most symptoms go away within 48 hours. About a week after treatment, your skin will look smoother and younger.
Are Dysport® Injections Right for Me?
Anyone who wants to minimize the appearance of older looking skin and doesn’t want cosmetic surgery is a good candidate for Dysport®. The wrinkles that you see in the mirror, whether caused by aging skin, sun damage, or how you use the nerves and muscles of your face, can be helped by Dysport. Dysport® specifically targets facial imperfections that result from overusing your facial muscles.
