What is Micro-Needling Skin Treatment?

Fractional micro-needling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that can improve overall skin texture. It can also be used to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, minimize pores, address textural scarring such as acne scarring. This procedure stimulates the body’s own collagen production by controlled delivery of micro-punctures to the skin. The basic idea of micro-needling has been around for more than a century but emerged in aesthetic medicine in the mid 1900s.

Traditional micro-needling treatment is recommended as a series of treatments to achieve best results.

Who Is A Candidate For Microneedling?

We offer microneedling to men and women of all ages. Because this is a non-invasive procedure, it is likely that you will be a strong candidate if you’d like a more radiant, youthful glow. If you have any skin concerns or health problems, call our office to learn more about your candidacy. Microneedling can be effective for men and women of all skin types who wish to improve the texture of their skin.

How Does Microneedling Work?

For traditional microneedling, a specialized “pen” is used to make precise micro-injuries on your skin. Your body’s own natural healing process then triggers your skin to stimulate collagen production and fresh, new tissue. This helps to tighten and smooth your skin.

Recovery From Microneedling

Microneedling is a non-invasive procedure, which involves minimal downtime, making it a great option for those with busy schedules or prior commitments. Within a few days, your skin will be healed, and all normal activity can resume. We recommend not applying makeup the day of the procedure. Following the procedure use of sunscreen and avoiding the sun is imperative as the skin will be sensitive.

As far as what to expect post-treatment, this varies by patient, but overall he or she will experience erythema, edema and perhaps a small amount of pinpoint bleeding. The day of treatment patient is instructed to go home and avoid any sun exposure; no exercise, no makeup, etc. The day following treatment patient may resume regular activities, wear makeup, etc. Most patients do experience some minor flakiness/peeling starting couple days after treatment.

Patient comfort is important; a topical numbing is applied for a specific length of time prior to treatment.

Patient Reviews

“I’m long overdue on this review, but if I could give more stars, I would. Dr. McGuire is my absolute favorite! I went into my procedure so afraid, uncertain, and with a TON of questions. I even came back for a second consult. She didn't act like I was annoying or a waste of time. She didn't try to sell me on anything. She listened to my concerns and needs and gave me her honest opinions. From scheduling to post-op, there was not one snag. She is punctual and extremely clear on what to expect every step of the way, to the hour, pretty much. She is so honest, which made me relax….” - Jessica C.
