What Is Breast Revision?

Breast revision is also known as breast implant replacement or breast implant removal. This common surgery can replace damaged implants or change the size, shape or type of your implants. It may also be used to treat capsular contracture; a tightening of the capsule of scar tissue around implants that can make the breast feel very firm. These procedures are customizable based upon your motivation for treatment and your aesthetic and health-related goals.

Who Is A Candidate For Breast Revision?

Breast revision is an ideal procedure for women whom have undergone a breast implant procedure in the past but are currently unhappy with the results. There are several reasons someone might become dissatisfied with breast implants, including:

  • Breast implants are leaking or ruptured, making revision necessary
  • Breast implants have hardened (capsular contracture)
  • Breast implants have changed due to pregnancy, weight change, or aging
  • Breast implants are old and no longer in an ideal position
  • Breast implants are no longer the size you like; you wish they were larger or smaller
  • Breast implants are no longer the shape you like, which can often be improved  by replacing the implants

If you can relate to any of the above conditions, you are likely a candidate for breast implant revision. Because this is a completely individualized procedure, our doctor will be able to determine the most effective way to alleviate your concerns at your consultation.

What Are The Benefits Of Breast Revision?

Breast revision benefits each and every person by correcting their specific problems associated with breast implants.Commonly, breast revision is performed to achieve a perkier position of the breasts and assure they look as realistic and natural in shape and feel as possible. This is because modern breast implant procedures and materials may allow for much more aesthetically pleasing and realistic-looking results than older versions. Others choose not to replace the implants and instead just to remove them completely. In other cases, the size and shape of the breasts and nipples can be altered based on the patient’s wishes.

What Is A Breast Revision Procedure?

The breast revision procedure always begins with removal of the implant. If the implant has ruptured or leaked, our doctor will carefully remove the implant shell and its contents  from the body. Once this has been accomplished the revisional procedure is customized to you. In most cases, the implants are replaced using any of a number of different implants and techniques carefully chosen to meet the patient’s needs. In some cases the breast may also be lifted at the same time. The benefit of breast revision is that it allows you to remove and replace implants all in one procedure.

Patient Reviews

“I went to Dr. McGuire for a consultation to have my breast implants removed and the possibility of a lift. From the moment she came in the room I knew she would be my doctor. She listened to all of my wants, concerns and thoughts and answered the large majority of my questions before I even had to ask. Her knowledge and straightforwardness is what sold me on her being my doctor. I truly appreciate doctors that don’t sugarcoat or skim over my questions and Dr. McGuire did neither of those…” - Tiffany L.
