Restylane

Restylane is a dermal filler in the form of a gel created from Hyaluronic acid- a naturally occurring substance located between skin cells that binds moisture and provides fullness and temporary volume.  Restylane is injected into the skin to lift or volumize mild to moderate facial creases and wrinkles, such as the creases from the nose to the mouth.  It can last 6 months or longer, but benefits from being layered to prevent total absorption.  It received FDA approval in 2006, and comes in 1cc and 0.4cc syringe sizes.  Areas of treatment include enhancing or outlining aging or thin lips, softening facial creases and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds or marionette lines, and improving the appearance of recessed scars. Injections are done using a topical anesthetic or an oral block for lip procedures, and take just a few minutes.  There is some downtime possible due to swelling and or bruising, and your injector will require a full evaluation prior to injection.
