Botox is a popular non-surgical injection that temporarily reduces or eliminates frown lines between the brows, forehead creases, fine creases near the eyes, lifts the brows in some cases, and softens the fine line creases around the lips. The chemical of Botox specifically targets these various muscles when injected, and has FDA approval to temporarily relax or decrease the muscle function that causes the wrinkling while giving the skin a smoother, more refreshed appearance for 3 to 6 months. Not all facial wrinkles benefit from the injection of Botox, and Botox won’t reverse wrinkling or aging caused by sun damage. Your skin type, skin thickness, and degree of wrinkling all play a role in determining whether these injections are effective for you. Some results are noticeable in as little as 3-5 days, however, full effect is seen within 2-3 weeks. Downtime is minimal, and treatment takes just a few minutes, usually using a topical anesthetic.
